5 Best Rowing Machines for Your Home

Rowing machines are amongst the most elite exercising machines in the world. They improve your body in many different ways. This includes building your cardiovascular endurance and strengthening your quads, arms, shoulders, and hamstrings. These types of machines are truly special and there are quite a few of them that stand out. However, I am just going to warn you right now so I don’t have to repeat myself, many of the best rowing machines are astronomically expensive. If you want the best workout possible, though, then you really should consider investing in one of the five rowing machines listed below.

Concept2 Model E Indoor Rowing Machine with PM5

One of the more sought after rowing machines in the world is the Concept2 Model E with PM5. If you have heard of this model before, then you most likely have heard of the Model D. The only reason I chose Model E over Model D is because the seat is 20 inches off the floor (nearly double that of the Model D). This makes it much easier for you to get on and off the machine.

The amazing features of this model are nearly endless. The built-in nickel-plated chain requires less oiling than other rowing machines and the finish protects against scratches. Resistance-wise, it’s quite amazing as the spiral damper allows you to adjust the airflow to the flywheel with ease. This ensures that you can stroke to your level of comfort. However, the Performance Monitor 5 (PM5) is what truly sets this beast apart from the rest of the pack. With the PM5, you can monitor your heart rate, compare data for every single stroke and store your data on a USB flash drive.

Kettler Coach E Indoor Rower

The Kettler Coach E Indoor Rower may not be quite as good as the Concept2 Model E, but it’s darn close. What’s awesome about this model is that its brake system provides a tremendous amount of range for resistance: 25 to 500 watts. It also has an incredibly high-resolution Siemens LCD digital computer with 16 training exercises for you to go through. An added Polar T34 wireless chest strap allows you to wirelessly monitor your heart rate, as well.

The integrated resistance system is also fantastic as there is a program that allows you to vary the resistance while you stroke. If this is not your style, though, you can set the resistance level to what you want. Another cool aspect that comes in handy when you are not using this machine is that it can be easily stored in an upright position.

Velocity Exercise Indoor Rowing Machine

To be honest, I could probably just end the list now as the previous two rowing machines might be the best you will find. However, the prices of them may scare you away. I know I previously warned you about it, but I think we should take a look at a couple of less expensive rowing machines. The Velocity Exercise Indoor Rowing Machine, for example, is a machine that lacks some of the features of the previous two but is still a fantastic machine.

It features a fully lit monitor that has 12 user programs and also a strap to monitor your heart rate. What’s really convenient about the computer monitor, though, is that you can adjust it to a position of your liking. This is also a very quiet machine, but the fanwheel does offer you a great breeze when working out on it! Comfortability is certainly not an issue as the seat is fully padded and the sliding is very smooth. You can also easily fold it for storage and slide it with its integrated wheels.

Stamina Avari Programmable Magnetic Rower

There is no doubt that the Stamina Avari Programmable Magnetic Rower has one of my favorite digital computers of any rowing machine. It features an impressive looking LCD-backlit screen with 12 different workout programs: cardio profiles, user programs and a heart rate program. The monitor also displays your total distance, calories burned, strokes per minute, pulse, count and time. However, my favorite aspect to the monitor is that you can use the up and down arrows to adjust your workout resistance and time on the fly.

An interesting feature of this rowing machine is that it actually uses nylon instead of a chain as the pulling mechanism. This may seem weaker, but the nylon is actually incredibly thick and sturdy. An added bonus to using nylon is it makes the pull extremely quiet. Overall, this model is also very comfortable. With that being said, I should also point out that it may not be a bad idea to add a little extra comfort to the seat, as it can become a little uncomfortable for long uses.

WaterRower Club Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor

I only selected one water rowing machine for this list, so you are right to assume that I think this is the best of its kind. One of the more unique rowing machines available, the WaterRower Club is actually handcrafted in solid ash and is stained for color. This makes it one of the most beautiful models, but the ash wood serves more purposes than just design. The ash also absorbs the vibration and sound of the machine making the performance smoother and quieter.

The flywheel actually sits in an enclosed tank of water, which not only creates a self-regulating resistance system, but also mimics rowing in a boat. It’s also clear that the creators took time designing the computer system. The monitor includes several QuickSelection buttons, as well as several information and programming windows. You will also find your heart rate, stroke rate, duration, workout intensity and total distance.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen! If you want to enjoy one of the best exercising machines on the planet, then I advise choosing any of the five that I mentioned!
